We are the HYPER Robotics Safety Team here to keep the team safe. In order to do that, it is extremely important to spread awareness of how we can keep ourselves safe. Each year we make sure the team is safety trained, first by having our experts teach all the students the proper safety protocols of working in robotics, like using hand tools, personal safety, machine power tools, hand power tools, and robot awareness. We then administer a test on everything learned with the help of our adviser, Mr. Long. We have a strict policy, in which anyone who does not pass the safety test must repeatedly take it until they do. Any kind of injury, whether small or large, is documented on our accident report form. Each form lists the type of injury as well as ways to prevent future accidents. We also have extensive files of SDS sheets and a battery spill kit that we update yearly.
With an increasing amount of people joining the team each year, we have created a system of issuing safety glasses to each member of the team. Veterans reuse safety glasses given to them in their first year. Rookies are given a pair that they will continue to use in their HYPER career. At the end of each work day, members store their safety glasses in their own pouch. In addition to these safeguards, we also maintain a first aid kit. In it, there is everything, ranging from tweezers to sterile water. We frequently update our kit and bring it to competition. Also at competition is our ABC fire extinguisher. If the need arises, we can keep ourselves and other teams safe. In order to keep a healthy environment, we always have safety team members watching over the students and mentors while they are working, ready to provide any help if needed.
